Our work at The Mantrums centers on confronting Australia’s gender-based violence crisis. We act on the urgent need to raise awareness of this national emergency—a crisis where women are killed at alarming rates, often by people they know and trust, in their own homes. Our journey began five years ago, born out of frustration, grief, and a shared determination to make change. Starting as community and social media advocacy, we have evolved into a movement that speaks out for those who can no longer do so, pushing for systemic reform beyond symbolic gestures.
In the five years since we began, statistics have only grown more harrowing. The number of women killed in acts of violence continues to rise, yet government action remains largely performative, making headlines but falling short of the deep reform needed to protect women’s lives. This year, 58 women in Australia have lost their lives. Each was a daughter, sister, friend, colleague, or mother. Their lives mattered. It is our responsibility to ensure they are not forgotten.
We will not stop until every woman and girl can grow up in a society that is safe, supportive, and values them—where government acts with urgency, compassion, and accountability. The fight against gender-based violence is a national moral obligation. Join us: speak up, support survivors, demand action, and help create real change.
